The LoveKey Movement was birthed after a conversation with one of Cody's best friends, Cosimo Bruno, who at the time was going through a difficult break-up. Cody extracted the essence of what his friend was feeling and became the vessel to bring to life his desire for unconditional love through an act of performance art called, Love is the Key, in which random people on the streets of New York City became active participants.
Below you will see where the LoveKey Movement began, and in a few sentences, here is where we see it going: keys, merch, murals, charity work, global symbol for love. Maybe it becomes its own charity organization? Maybe it becomes a household name? Whatever it becomes, it will always be a powerful way to tell people they are loved.
Valentine's Day was two days away when we came up with the idea. We had 500 keys overnighted, then spent the remaining hours painting and writing on each of the keys. We barely slept, but when morning came we set out, in NYC, to give hand-painted LoveKeys to strangers as planned. We had no clue how this would be received - The weather was cold, we had never done performance art like this, but it was Valentine's Day and Love was in the air!
