I'm exploring myself and nature through representational and abstract art, mixing and matching metaphors as I go. My relationship to paint is physical, emotional, and tactile. I both throw and brush on the medium depending on what needs to be conveyed. These decisions are made without loyalty to any particular school, however, I do naturally draw from Abstract Expressionism and Impressionism. The inspiration for the splatter in this collection is sunsets. The fuel is emotion. I then give context and balance to the splattered canvas by creating a scene with imagery from all the beautiful places and things that I've come across on my travels. Some are very specific, while others are only suggestive. I rarely know what the scene will be until the splatter portion is done and I have had time to sit with the result.
Each piece is a not only a visual representation of my emotional response to a sunset, but a window into my subconscious via the imagery I've chosen to give it context.
